The Assistant Director of Human Resources will oversee and support all areas of Human Resources operations, including recruitment, employee relations, benefits administration, training and development, safety and workers’ compensation, compliance, and liability prevention. This role partners closely with hotel leadership to foster a positive workplace culture while ensuring compliance with company policies and employment laws.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise, mentor, and develop hourly and management-level HR team members.
- Partner with the Director of HR to support company culture, leadership initiatives, and HR best practices.
- Coordinate and implement training and development programs, identifying opportunities for new initiatives based on business needs.
- Conduct employee investigations and assist leadership with employment-related decisions, including coaching, counseling, and terminations.
- Support responses related to employment claims and legal matters in partnership with the Director of HR.
- Act as the HR department lead in the absence of the Director of HR, maintaining effective communication with hotel leadership.
- Provide guidance to department leaders on employee relations matters while ensuring compliance with company policies and employment laws.
- Assist with succession planning and talent development efforts across all hotel departments.
- Ensure onboarding, benefits administration, terminations, and associate programs are executed according to company standards.
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment regulations and ensure HR procedures remain current and accurate.
- Support employee engagement initiatives, recognition programs, and associate events that promote a positive workplace culture.
- Ensure all required training programs and certifications are completed in compliance with legal and company standards.
- Oversee recruiting efforts, including job fairs, community outreach, and workforce planning to meet staffing needs.
- Maintain organized employee records, documentation, and HR operational procedures.
- Monitor departmental expenses and assist with budgeting and forecasting related to HR operations and associate relations.
- Conduct exit interviews and coordinate final clearance procedures for departing associates.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by hotel leadership.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree required.
- Minimum of 4 years of Human Resources experience required.
- At least 3 years of experience in an HR leadership role.
- Strong background in employee relations, including investigations, coaching, counseling, performance management, and terminations.
- Well-rounded HR experience including benefits, training, compliance, safety, and liability prevention.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to coach, mentor, and influence leaders and associates at all levels.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
- Prior hotel or resort experience strongly preferred.
- Experience developing and facilitating training programs preferred.
- Experience in large hotel environments with 500+ associates preferred.
