Overview
The People Operations Specialist supports the day-to-day operations of the People Operations department and contributes to the function’s role in supporting the execution of the Company’s strategy. Reporting to the VP People Operations, this role is responsible for HR processes including recruitment, onboarding, benefits administration, payroll, HR systems reporting and maintenance, and employee lifecycle support. This role offers the opportunity to build a strong foundation in Human Resources while partnering with business leaders across a growing organization.
Key Responsibilities
The People Operations Specialist key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Employee Lifecycle & Onboarding
- Support recruitment efforts, including posting positions, reviewing resumes, scheduling interviews, and conducting reference checks.
- Manage pre-employment and onboarding activities, including new hire documentation and I-9 administration.
- Process employee changes including transfers, promotions, status updates, offboarding activities, exit documentation, and system updates.
Benefits Administration
- Assist with benefits administration, including enrollments, status changes, and invoice processing and reconciliation.
- Support open enrollment activities, including employee communications, system setup, and issue resolution.
Compliance
- Manage customer compliance requirements and drug testing programs.
- Support audit preparation by maintaining accurate records and providing required documentation.
Employee Engagement
- Support employee engagement and well-being initiatives that align with company values and foster a collaborative culture.
- Administer employee recognition programs.
Payroll and HRIS (35%)
- Process payroll for multi-state and international employees accurately and timely, ensuring compliance with federal, state, local and international regulations.
- Prepare and distribute recurring payroll reports, including headcount, overtime, and other key metrics to support business operations.
- Respond to employee payroll inquiries and provide guidance as needed.
- Prepare and process year-end payroll forms, including W-2s, 1095-Cs, and state tax filings.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 1–3 years of experience in HR, People Operations, or a related field.
- Strong organizational, time management, and prioritization skills, with a high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
- Adaptable and able to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Clear communicator with strong interpersonal skills and a customer service-oriented mindset.
- Demonstrates problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to identifying solutions.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively within a motivated, team-oriented environment.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
- Supports the development and continuous improvement of HR processes and workflows.
- Onsite role based at our Houston corporate headquarters, with flexibility to work remotely on select Fridays, excluding month-end and quarter-close periods.
