LHH is partnering with a mission-driven organization in the Washington, DC area to identify an HR Specialist for a long-term contract opportunity. This role requires 3 days onsite, 2 remote and offers the opportunity to support a collaborative, community-oriented team while contributing to core HR operations and employee experience initiatives.

Position Overview
The HR Specialist supports day-to-day people operations and plays a key role in enhancing the employee experience. This position works closely with leadership to ensure efficient HR processes, regulatory compliance, and consistent, high-quality support for employees across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Talent Acquisition & Onboarding
- Partner with hiring managers to understand workforce needs and draft job descriptions
- Manage candidate pipelines, interview scheduling, and overall recruiting coordination
- Oversee onboarding activities, including orientation and completion of new hire paperwork
- Assist in the development and implementation of an internship program
Employee Support & Engagement
- Act as a primary resource for employee questions and HR-related inquiries
- Foster a positive, service-oriented workplace culture
- Assist with employee relations matters in accordance with internal policies and procedures
HR Operations & Compliance
- Maintain and update employee records within HR systems
- Support compliance with applicable labor laws and employment regulations
- Assist with audits, reporting, and workforce documentation requirements
Benefits Administration & Vendor Coordination
- Provide employee guidance on benefits programs such as HSA, FSA, and 403(b) plans
- Coordinate with external benefits providers and third-party vendors as needed
Systems & Process Improvement
- Help organize and improve SharePoint and internal HR resource libraries
- Support enhancements to HR systems and employee self-service tools
Learning & Development
- Identify training needs and support coordination of development programs
- Contribute to initiatives focused on employee growth, engagement, and retention
Strategic HR Support
- Assist with policy updates and process improvement initiatives
- Provide input on employee engagement and workforce trends
- Support leadership in strengthening overall employee experience strategies
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field
- 2–5 years of experience in HR, people operations, or a related function
- HR certification (SHRM-CP, PHR, or equivalent) preferred
- Working knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices
- Experience with HRIS systems (Paycom experience a plus)
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
