People Operations Manager

Location: Bellevue, WA (Hybrid - 3 days a week) | Type: Full-Time | Reports To: Chief Revenue Officer

Salary: 80,000 - 85,000 base, bonus eligible

THE ROLE

You'll be the sole HR hire, a true generalist who can hold the full people function while we scale. One day you're planning team events, managing payroll, and the next you're running a performance review cycle or helping a manager craft perfect welcome letters for new hires. You're comfortable with ambiguity, energized by variety, and excited to build systems from scratch. This role touches every corner of the company and has real ownership from day one.

WHAT YOU'LL OWN

People Operations & HR

Own the relationship with our PEO (Justworks), be the primary point of contact for all HR administration, compliance, and employee data
Run payroll accurately and on time; pay contractors and manage all reimbursements
Manage DocuSign workflows for offer letters, agreements, and other people documents
Partner with CRO to lead the annual compensation review process, including benchmarking, modeling, and manager communications
Administer semi-annual performance reviews end to end, templates, timelines, manager training, and calibration support
Review and manage US benefits programs; coordinate open enrollment and answer employee questions
Manage monthly commission payouts, working cross-functionally with sales and Finance to ensure accuracy
Serve as the first point of contact for immigration questions, coordinating with outside counsel as needed
Order swag, come up with creative ways to build a high performing team
Maintain all employee folders

Recruitment & Onboarding

Partner with recruitment consultant to run full-cycle recruiting across functions - who will write JDs, source candidates, manage pipelines, schedule interviews, and drive offers to close
Track candidates and keep hiring managers updated; maintain a clean ATS
Own onboarding from day one - systems access, paperwork, orientation, and a great first-week experience, set up gmail, and internal communication accounts
Partner with managers to write personalized welcome letters and set new hires up for early success

Office & Logistics

Manage all office operations for our Bellevue, WA office - snacks, supplies, vendor relationships, and day-to-day facilities, hardware
Book travel (flights, hotels) for the team; negotiate hotel rates and preferred vendor agreements to keep us budget-conscious
Handle all reimbursements promptly and accurately
Send birthday gifts to new hires, and creators

Culture & Workplace Experience

Plan and run team events, offsites, and celebrations that people actually look forward to
Bring creative ideas for how to make Markable a great place to work - and follow through on them
Be a trusted resource for employees across all levels, building culture through every interaction

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

3-6 years of HR generalist experience, ideally in a startup or high-growth environment where you wore many hats
Experience with a PEO platform - Justworks experience is a strong plus
Solid working knowledge of US employment law, benefits administration, and payroll fundamentals
Experience coordinating with immigration counsel on visa and sponsorship questions
Highly organized with strong attention to detail - you don't drop balls
A natural people person who builds trust quickly and communicates clearly at all levels
Low ego, high ownership - you're willing to order snacks and run a comp review in the same week
Resourceful problem-solver who figures things out and doesn't need a playbook for everything
Experience planning team events and thinking creatively about employee experience

NICE TO HAVE

Familiarity with DocuSign administration and workflow management
Experience managing contractor relationships and international payments
Background in the creator economy, media, or tech startup space
Prior experience as the first or only HR hire at a company
