Position Summary:

The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for driving operational excellence within the HR function through ownership of HR data, reporting, and standardized processes. This role leads the design, governance, and continuous improvement of HR procedures while delivering data-driven insights to support strategic decision-making.

Acting as a key partner across construction, maritime, and port operations, this position ensures HR programs are executed consistently, compliantly, and efficiently across all divisions. The ideal candidate combines strong analytical capability with process discipline, bringing a systems-thinking approach to HR operations and continuous improvement.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Serve as a key HR point of contact for employees and managers, providing guidance on policies, procedures, and employee relations matters. 
Own the development, accuracy, and governance of HR data and reporting frameworks within HRIS (ADP or similar)
Develop, document, and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) across all HR functions
Manage the full employee lifecycle including onboarding, performance management, and offboarding. 
Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws (NYS, SC, and Canadian compliance preferred). 
Conduct workplace investigations and recommend appropriate resolutions in collaboration with HR leadership. 
Partner with payroll and finance on personnel changes, wage adjustments, and compliance audits. 
Assist in developing and updating HR policies, handbooks, and procedures to reflect company and regulatory changes. 
Support recruiting efforts, including job postings, interviews, and coordination with hiring managers. 
Lead or participate in HR projects related to engagement, retention, and training initiatives. 
Provide coaching and support to supervisors and employees to foster a positive and compliant workplace culture. 
Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field. 
Minimum of 2 years of progressive HR experience, with demonstrated expertise in employee relations and compliance. 
Strong understanding of federal and state employment laws (NYS required; multi-state experience preferred). 
Proficiency with HRIS systems (ADP preferred) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook). 
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills. 
Ability to handle confidential information with integrity and discretion.

Preferred Experience:

PHR or SHRM-CP certification. 
Experience in construction, maritime, or industrial sectors. 
Familiarity with Canadian employment regulations a plus.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a computer.
Ability to view computer screens and printed materials with or without reasonable accommodation.
Occasional standing, walking, bending, or lifting light office materials (up to 10-15 pounds).
Ability to communicate effectively in person, by phone, and via virtual meeting platforms.

Work Environment:

Primarily office-based professional work environment.
Standard business hours, with occasional extended hours during peak periods.
Frequent collaboration with internal teams and leadership.
Limited business travel may be required based on business needs.
