Internship AI Vision at Surgical Reality
Location: Nieuw-Vennep, The Netherlands (Hybrid)
Minimum duration: 12 weeks
Internship compensation: €400/month
About Surgical Reality
Surgical Reality is a MedTech startup developing advanced 3D visualization software for surgical practice, powered by cutting-edge computer vision and AI algorithms. Our mission is to give surgeons patient-specific anatomical models that enhance surgical insight, confidence, and treatment outcomes. Over the past years, we have developed a product for complex lung surgery that surgeons use both preoperatively and intraoperatively - essentially a GPS for the operating room. Our lung product has recently received CE-certification and FDA-approval and is now growing in the market.
We are building a set of video-analysis algorithms that can be used on intraoperative surgical videos, with the goal of improving intra-operative navigation in the operating room. We are looking for two internships to explore the use of Computer Vision techniques (object detection, classification, visual odometry) on surgical videos for real-time usage. The projects are exploratory in nature, where the candidates will be expected to perform their own research and be comfortable with unknowns.
Responsibilities
- Explore datasets and data annotation methods.
- Develop image pre/post-processing methods using Python.
- Compare technical approaches such as deep-learning architectures and learning strategies and suggest evaluation metrics.
- Work towards real-time proof-of-concept.
Your Profile
- Final year BSc or MSc student in computer science, data science, biomedical engineering, technical medicine, robotics, artificial intelligence or related fields.
- Interest in medical imaging, computer vision, image-guided interventions or surgical navigation.
- Experience with Python and data processing is required and experience with image/video processing, 3D data, annotation workflows or machine learning is a plus.
- Able to work independently in an exploratory project where the final technical solution is still open.
