The Green Award Foundation, based in Rotterdam, is looking for a digitally savvy Research & Data Officer who combines maritime knowledge with a strong analytical and data-driven mindset.
This is not a traditional research role. You will play a key role in strengthening maritime safety and sustainability, using data, research, and digital tools to elevate certification standards beyond compliance.
Your Impact
As part of our team, you will help push the maritime sector beyond compliance. You contribute directly to improving safety and sustainability in global shipping. You help ensure that Green Award remains a trusted and forward-looking certification body, by combining research, industry knowledge, and data-driven insights.
You will:
- Strengthen safety and environmental performance in the maritime sector
- Translate research and data into robust, future-proof certification requirements
- Identify risks, trends, and opportunities that shape industry best practices
- Support the transition toward a more data-driven and innovative certification approach
What you’ll do
- Develop and drive the research and digital insights roadmap
- Development of certification requirements that enhance onboard safety culture and sustainable practices
- Have understanding for capturing latest information and regulations of the IMO from committee developments on safety, environment, design, training and human factors.
- Stay at the forefront of maritime regulations and best practices (SOLAS, MARPOL, ISO, TMSA, etc.)
- Translate findings into clear recommendations and certification requirements
- Conduct data-driven research using modern tools, datasets, and methodologies
- Analyze structured and unstructured data to uncover patterns, risks, and opportunities
- Contribute to product development, strategy, and stakeholder communication
- Explore and propose digital solutions (e.g. dashboards, data models, automation of insights)

Your Profile
- HBO or Master’s degree in Sustainability, Engineering, Data/Analytical Studies, or similar
- 5 to 7 years of relevant experience (research, analytics, consulting, or similar)
- Knowledge of maritime regulations and frameworks (e.g. SOLAS, MARPOL, ISO, TMSA)
- Strong affinity with digital tools, data analysis, and innovation
- Have advanced skills with Power BI and presentation to deploy tools and technologies with AI to drive efficiency and results.
- Excellent communication skills in English (written & spoken)
- Based in the Netherlands (commutable to Rotterdam)
