What's the role?
You'll own the full HR partnership for Etsy's Operations organization, including a direct relationship with our VP of Customer Operations. You'll work with little day-to-day oversight, navigate real complexity, and be a genuine thought partner to senior leaders - not just a program executor.
This is a full-time position reporting to the Senior Director of HR Business Partners. In addition to salary, you will also be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Etsy.
This role requires your presence in Etsy’s Brooklyn Office once or twice per week depending on your proximity to the office. Candidates living within commutable distance of Etsy’s Brooklyn Office Hub may be the first to be considered. Learn more details about our work modes and workplace safety policies here.
What's this team like?
The HRBP team is part of the broader People & Workplace function at Etsy. Our mission: be Etsy's trusted talent partners - shaping decisions early and enabling leaders to do their best work. We use data, judgment, and influence to help build high-performing, inclusive teams that drive real business outcomes.
What does the day-to-day look like?
- Own the HRBP relationship with Operations leaders up to and including VP level. That means being a trusted, influential thought partner - not a service desk.
- Partner with leaders to synchronize people and organizational strategies. You'll pressure test thinking, surface risks early, and push toward better outcomes.
- Drive complex and sensitive situations - employee relations, org design, talent planning, performance - to clear resolution. You'll consult centers of excellence (Employee Relations, Employment Counsel, Total Rewards, etc.) as needed, and manage up when it matters.
- Use predictive people data and insights to inform talent and organizational strategy, not just report on what already happened.
- Anticipate dependencies and tradeoffs in org changes and people programs. Build plans that account for them - and adjust when the business shifts.
- Deliver our core people programs (talent planning, succession, annual review, development conversations) in a way that actually lands with your client groups.
- Build sustainable practices that make the broader HRBP team more effective - not just your own book of work.
- Coach and guide more junior HRBPs - you set the example.
- Of course, this is just a sample of the kinds of work this role will require! You should assume that your role will encompass other tasks, too, and that your job duties and responsibilities may change from time to time at Etsy's discretion, or otherwise applicable with local law.
Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:
- 7+ years in HR, with at least 4 as an HRBP. You've supported senior leaders in a complex, fast-moving environment.
- You're an effective relationship builder. Leaders and employees seek your guidance, and you've earned that trust.
- You can drive alignment across a room full of different priorities and perspectives.
- You have strong business acumen. You understand how organizations work and can connect people strategy to business outcomes.
- You've led complex employee relations matters with good judgment and discretion.
- You're fluent in advanced HR practice - coaching, behavior management, succession planning, workforce planning.
- You're proactive and autonomous. You don't wait to be told what the problem is.
- You have strong written and verbal communication skills and high attention to detail.
- A bachelor's degree in a relevant field. Knowledge of U.S. employment law (including FMLA and ADA) is expected. Familiarity with Irish or broader European employment law is a plus.
