Job Summary
The Cyber Security Engineer (Expert) is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining advanced security architectures to protect enterprise systems, networks, and data from evolving cyber threats. This role takes a proactive, engineering‑driven approach to security, focusing on prevention, detection, and rapid response while ensuring compliance with regulatory and industry frameworks.
Key Responsibilities
Security Architecture & Engineering
- Design, implement, and maintain secure network, cloud, and application security architectures.
- Develop defense‑in‑depth strategies, including firewalls, IDS/IPS, endpoint protection, and encryption solutions.
- Integrate security controls into CI/CD pipelines and system development life cycles (SDLC).
Threat Detection & Incident Response
- Monitor systems using SIEM and SOAR platforms to detect, analyse, and respond to security incidents.
- Lead incident response, forensic investigations, root cause analysis, and remediation activities.
- Develop and test incident response playbooks and disaster recovery plans.
Vulnerability Management
- Conduct vulnerability assessments, penetration testing, and risk assessments across infrastructure and applications.
- Identify security gaps and implement corrective actions before exploitation.
- Coordinate remediation efforts with IT, DevOps, and application teams
Governance, Risk & Compliance (GRC)
- Ensure compliance with security frameworks and regulations such as NIST, ISO 27001, GDPR, and organisational security policies.
- Develop, review, and enforce security policies, standards, and operating procedures.
- Support internal and external audits and risk assessments.
Collaboration & Leadership
- Act as a subject matter expert (SME) advising leadership and engineering teams on security best practices.
- Mentor junior security engineers and analysts.
- Provide security awareness training to technical and non‑technical stakeholders
Required Technical Skills
- Strong expertise in network security, cloud security (AWS/Azure/GCP), and operating systems (Linux, Windows).
- Hands‑on experience with SIEM tools, IDS/IPS, EDR, firewalls, and endpoint security platforms.
- Knowledge of encryption, PKI, identity and access management (IAM), and zero‑trust architectures.
- Proficiency in scripting or programming (Python, PowerShell, Bash; exposure to Java/C/C++ is beneficial).
- Experience with vulnerability scanning tools and penetration testing methodologies.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Security, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 7+ years of progressive experience in cybersecurity engineering or related roles.
- Industry certifications preferred: CISSP, CISM, CEH, Security+, GIAC, or equivalent.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
- Experience in government, defence, or regulated environments.
- Hands‑on experience with DevSecOps and automated security testing.
- Familiarity with threat modelling and red‑team/blue‑team exercises.
