Europe’s first full-stack AI financial services company
We merge best-in-class financial technology; banking, payments, invoicing, accounting, payroll and tax with embedded expert advisory services.
We are the force-multiplier. Our system continuously learns from our customers, which means every workflow becomes faster, more accurate and more automated over time saving our customers 100+ hours a year of time wasted on admin.
Our team is made up of ambitious, unapologetically curious, slightly crazy ex-founders, veteran fintech operators, AI engineers, creatives and corporate finance experts from the big4. We’re serious about excellence, but we’re anything but boring: on weekends you might find us at techno parties, wine tastings, football matches or training new models for fun.
If you thrive in a high-commitment, high-reward culture and want the autonomy to deliver your best work, this will be the most exciting team you ever join.
Neno is backed by Firstminute Capital, Motive Partners and angels from Miro, Coinbase, Mollie, Juni, Deel, Navro, Copper, Wise & PayPal.
The Role
We are looking for an AI Engineer to join our engineering team who will design, build and operate the agentic AI systems that sit at the core of Neno's product. This is a high-ownership, high-impact role: you will architect and ship the multi-agent workflows, context pipelines, LLM integrations and automation infrastructure that transform how European SMEs manage their accounting, tax, payroll and banking, and you will do it inside a team that treats AI as the product, not a feature bolted on top of one.
You will work directly with the VP Engineering and alongside a team of AI engineers, product builders and chartered accountants to translate complex financial workflows into production-grade AI systems. The domain matters here: Neno must be accurate enough to handle VAT returns, precise enough to reconcile bank feeds and explainable enough that our accountants can supervise and trust it. You will build AI-powered systems that meet that bar.
You have deep hands-on experience with agentic AI frameworks, LLM orchestration and retrieval-augmented generation. You think carefully about evaluation, observability and failure modes, not just about what works in a notebook. And you are genuinely excited about the specific challenge of applying AI to financial services workflows, where the cost of a wrong answer is real.
What the role is not
This is not a role for someone who wants to fine-tune models in isolation or research AI in the abstract. You will be building production systems that handle real financial data for real SME clients, systems that must be accurate, reliable and explainable. The bar is high and the feedback loop is short. Building a company like Neno is fun. We celebrate the wins, learn from the losses and never repeat the same mistakes. This is what it takes to win, and we only want to win.
Who are we looking for
We care about what you've shipped, what it changed, and what you fought for to make it happen. Most of this is true about you:
- You took a product from 1 to 100 and beyond. You have experience in joining a company early, owning a meaningful part of it, and actively growing it. You built the thing, shipped it, watched real users use it, fixed what broke, and iterated until it worked.
- You like small and lean teams. You will be the 8th engineer joining Neno. 7th if you apply right now.
- You've shipped an end-to-end AI product with measurable impact. We want you to talk about a real thing that you shipped to real users and moved a real number you can us about. You want to do it again, and you know how to do it better this time. You’re eager to talk about nuances and technologies you’ve used.
- You championed AI internally. You pulled engineers, PMs, ops people, accountants, whoever, off their old workflows and onto AI-native ones. You wrote the playbook. You answered the same questions for the tenth time without losing patience. People are still using the patterns you set up.
- You championed AI externally. You wrote the blog post, gave the talk, did the podcast, contributed to open-source, or published work in applied AI. You're comfortable being the face of your work.
- You have a well defined agentic coding workflow, and you can show it. Claude, Cursor, or Codex; mcp’s, memory management, multi-agent systems. You knew the layout of ~/.claude before it was cool. What matters is that you've thought about it, iterated on it, made it pragmatic and efficient, and use it daily and can tell us about it.
- You scope your own work. You like to work on a problem, not on a ticket. You break hard-to-solve problems down, think through the scenarios, edge cases, business goals and user experience. You make the calls, and discuss with colleagues.
- You’re working in a collaborative manner. You don’t work in isolation, you share infrastructure, API design, data structures, code patterns, AGENTS.md with your colleagues. You have strong opinions and you know when to make trade-offs.
- You hold a high bar on quality. You don't ship and pray. "Mostly works" is below your bar, and you genuinely care about your customers. You know what this means for deterministic flows, complex API integrations and non-deterministic AI systems.
- TypeScript, Python, deno, GraphQL, Prisma, Pulumi. You are comfortable with our current stack, and you will help us to take it to the next level.
- You’ve done most of it. Agentic AI Systems, Context Engineering and RAG, Cloud AI platforms (AWS Bedrock, Google Vertex AI, or Azure), AI Observability, Experiment tracking, Evals. Fintech, European Finance or Accounting or Workflow automation domains.
What impact you will have
- Design and build the agentic AI systems that power Neno's core accounting, tax and payroll automation, end-to-end, from architecture to production
- Reduce the manual effort in our accountants' workflows by building AI agents that handle categorisation, reconciliation, anomaly detection and compliance checks reliably
- Build and maintain context engineering pipelines that give Neno's AI accurate, context-rich access to financial regulations, client data and accounting knowledge
- Define and own the evaluation frameworks, observability stack and quality controls that ensure AI output meets the precision required in financial services
- Contribute to Neno's AI architecture decisions, model selection, agent design patterns, memory and tool orchestration, as a senior technical voice
- Help raise the AI capability of the broader engineering team through code review, technical mentorship and shared best practices
